Once upon a time, a long time ago in the days of Windows 95 a girl played flight sims and logged many hours. Time passed, flight sims fell out of favor with gamers and she moved on to MMOs. Today she once more hears the call of the flight sim and lure of Star Wars space combat. And so in search of a new joystick she goes….
SWTOR’s Conflict Rising expansion is coming, and with it space combat! TIE FIGHTER was my favorite game of all time. It’s one of the few games I beat multiple times on all difficulty settings. I can’t even begin to count the hours I logged on that game. So when I heard that SWTOR was bringing in space combat, I just had to go back. There’s just one problem: my joystick. Old Faithful has been waiting for use since the late 90’s when I last used it. (Sorry no pics, I actually can’t even find it…that’s what happens when you move around a lot.) Unfortunately, that was several computers ago and now, my laptop – old as it is, doesn’t have a port for it. So the option was get a new stick or get an adapter. Seeing as my joystick is old, and only has 2 buttons, I decided on a new one.
My search was disappointing. As much as I’d love to spend a couple hundred dollars on a nice Thrustmaster flight set…I can’t. So the limited mid to low range choice of joysticks left few options. After researching I’ve decided on the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. It seemed to have good reviews for the sticks at this price point. I look forward to setting it up and seeing how it goes! I haven’t played a flight sim in years, so I will surely be rusty >.>; Watch for me in game, in your space blowing you up!
